Week starting 8th of December

Tuesday 8th - This week we struggled to finish our sets and props, getting everything into proportion and to scale. Our group kept finding problems we needed to fix, which quite frankly annoyed me.

Thursday 10th - Did my presentation assessment about Tiesto with Gavin. It was nervewracking, but I passed with flying colours. I did prepare well, but confused myself and mixed the order of the talk up. However, my sheer skill helped me overcome this monumentul problem.

Tuesday 15th - Had to create another set for our animation, and my group finished off little niggles and then started filming. I have a few pictures of our progress below...

Weeks beginning 2/11 & 9/11 & 16/11/09

2/11/09 : We continued breaking down our new project, looking at design briefs and watching a documentary on plasticine, which ties up with the next week...

9/11/09 : We made models from plasticine on tuesday, and flip books on friday. My flip book was of a tennis dude serving. We then put the flip books onto imovie and had them animated.

16/11/09 : On Tuesday we practised still motion. My group made a background and had our figures dance. We then transfered our data onto the computer ready for next week. The program we used was I-Photo, and below is an example of me using it. On Thursday we prepared for our presentation for Gavin. Im doing mine on the legend that is Tiesto. Friday we had to finish off our characters from a storyboard so we can make an animation!!

week beginning 26th October

On Tuesday we grazed the surface of a new project we could be doing (give racism the red card) with John, discussing our views and opinions. With Gavin we split up into our groups and went to film a short movie titled 'The Chase'. I had fun doing this. On Friday (thank god) we looked into animation and its history, starting a little flip book we are going to produce. Til next week...
Below are links to the different types of animation throughout history. Click on the name headers to watch a clip...

The first documented case of animation was the magic lantern (in 1671). Produced with an oil lamp and a lens, images were painted onto a glass plate and projected onto a screen.

The thaumatrope came next in 1824. A picture was put onto either side of a piece of card attached to a peice of string and twirled around quickly to make the images appear as one.

A zoetrope is made into motion with a series of still pictures moving in quick succession (first documented in 1834).

The praxinoscope came in 1877 as the succesor to the zoetrope. it is a strip of images placed inside a spinning cylinder.

The flip book eventually arrived in 1868, and is a series of pictures changing steadily from one page to the next.

Stop motion is the general term for an animation technique which makes still objects appear to move, using individual photographs.

CGI (computer generated imagery) is animation created and produced using computer technology. This is also used for special effects in movies and television shows.

An animation technique where animators trace over real film movements, frame by frame, to produce an animated peice.

The week before the holidays... October 09

This week with John we were making a podcast with our groups on our assigned topics. This involved collecting pictures, and then describing them. We each took turns which gave it an edge.
We continued with our product making (I'm making merchandise, a t-shirt and a cap) basically just finishing off my designs.
On Thursday with Gavin I finished off my report on Linkin Parks music video, then continued our discussion about media language (camera angles, lighting etc) and made a storyboard of a short film we will be doing in our groups.
Today we followed up on last weeks html class and designed the web page that will front our website.
Video Sharing

YouTube is the most popular video sharing website with millions subscribed. YouTube offers the user to upload videos and let the viewers rate them with a star rating system (5 being the highest). users can also leave feedback on what they thought of the clip.

Yahoo Video is similar to YouTube, but focuses on more mainstream videos ie clips from television, or important news. Users still get to post videos and give feedback though.

Google is one of the websites that allows you to change the layout of its home page to suite your personal tastes. For example, if you travel alot a special search menu for train/bus times can be set as the home page, making it easier to search your times. Below is someones home page suited to their specific needs.

The BBC also allows you to do this. So for example, if you liked the news, it could be first on your homepage making all the breaking news easily accessible. It allows you to do this for a wide variety of things from the weather, childrens t.v to food.

Photo Sharing

Flickr is a photo sharing website where people can post photos of anything ie events, parties, family ect. A feature of this website is the edit section, where you can cut, crop and obviously edit photos to your specification. You can also look at peoples photos from around the world.

Photobucket is another photo sharing website, with other features including art an d quotes & sayings. It takes the artistic side of photography, with still shots, black and white shots ect. People can post their photos and share them with the world. There is a most viewed catagory aswell, which shows the most popular pictures.

This Week... (29.09 - 2.10.09)

This week we managed to move on to designing our web page for bounce on Tuesday morning. In the afternoon with Angie I managed to start my repeat pattern for the poster we are making. Its in the early stages of development but I have a rough idea of what I'm doing.
On thursday we done a review on a specific music video Linkin Park's In The End) which I have yet to finish. In the afternoon we had a discussion on media language, looking at camera angles and lighting.
Today (Friday) we are using .html on this site to change the appearance of our posts.

Blogging

Blogger.com (this site) is a site where people can post a blog on anything they wish. We are using it for advancement in our studies.

Another site for this is Livejournal.com. It has many features which I am quite impressed with, including the ability to make up a journal or book.

It also lets you join a community, so that you can follow peoples blogs.

My Diary 25/09/09

The past week I have focused on my research for my group. Today I used that research to start writing for my EPK. I helped design the website layout as well.
Yesterday in Gavin's class we made a collage about a specific genre of music (Hardcore) with help from Flea, Ryan and Abee. I was impressed with the outcome.
I feel I am making progress, but also wish I was further ahead...

Search Engines

Search Engines

Search engines are websites where the user can se
arch for anything anywhere on the web. I would say google is the most popular and the 1 I use. Google looks like this...

Another popular search engine site is Yahoo! These sites are good for research, to get several websites you may not have known about. Yahoo! looks like this...

Another feature of search engines is if you do not know the exact website you can put in key words and the search engine will find the website for you. Ask.com is one of these sites, and it looks like this...

Most search engines have a feature where you can search for images. This is useful to save time looking through websites to find a desired picture. Dogpile is a good website for this, it looks like this...

My Diary: Start-18/9/09

Access to creative industries. I came not knowing what to expect. So far I have picked up many useful talents.
The first week was basically an introduction to the course and we glanced at what the year would entail, as well as basic mac/computer skills.
2nd and 3rd week in our art class we were doing abstract paintings, which involved tracing (several times) and painting, with useful ways to change the style ie scratching.
We were also introduced to garageband with john and made a podcast. Mine was about EH1 music festival and random nights out. The picture below is an example of the use of garageband.
This week (week 4) we were given the projects we were to do and split into groups. I am with Dawn Jamie and Kayleigh, and our project is Bounce! the dance group, who will be performing at the MacRobert centre in October. This week has basically been about research.

Youtube

Youtube is a video sharing website used by millions a
round the world. Videos can be linked to social websites like bebo, myspace and facebook. Membership is essential to upload and share videos but is free and easy to start.

Youtube hosts a review system in the form of st
ar ratings ( 1-5, 5 being the highest ).  Members can rate the videos and leave comments. Play lists can also be created. This is useful for music videos, saving the user constantly typing in their favourite songs.

Google video is another video sharing site and is easily accessible through the normal google web page. It has basically the same setup as youtube and has a link directly with youtube (as it is owned by the same company) A feature I like is the fact that the most popular videos being watched just now come up on the home page.
