Blogging

Blogger.com (this site) is a site where people can post a blog on anything they wish. We are using it for advancement in our studies.

Another site for this is Livejournal.com. It has many features which I am quite impressed with, including the ability to make up a journal or book.

It also lets you join a community, so that you can follow peoples blogs.

My Diary 25/09/09

The past week I have focused on my research for my group. Today I used that research to start writing for my EPK. I helped design the website layout as well.
Yesterday in Gavin's class we made a collage about a specific genre of music (Hardcore) with help from Flea, Ryan and Abee. I was impressed with the outcome.
I feel I am making progress, but also wish I was further ahead...

Search Engines

Search Engines

Search engines are websites where the user can se
arch for anything anywhere on the web. I would say google is the most popular and the 1 I use. Google looks like this...

Another popular search engine site is Yahoo! These sites are good for research, to get several websites you may not have known about. Yahoo! looks like this...

Another feature of search engines is if you do not know the exact website you can put in key words and the search engine will find the website for you. Ask.com is one of these sites, and it looks like this...

Most search engines have a feature where you can search for images. This is useful to save time looking through websites to find a desired picture. Dogpile is a good website for this, it looks like this...

My Diary: Start-18/9/09

Access to creative industries. I came not knowing what to expect. So far I have picked up many useful talents.
The first week was basically an introduction to the course and we glanced at what the year would entail, as well as basic mac/computer skills.
2nd and 3rd week in our art class we were doing abstract paintings, which involved tracing (several times) and painting, with useful ways to change the style ie scratching.
We were also introduced to garageband with john and made a podcast. Mine was about EH1 music festival and random nights out. The picture below is an example of the use of garageband.
This week (week 4) we were given the projects we were to do and split into groups. I am with Dawn Jamie and Kayleigh, and our project is Bounce! the dance group, who will be performing at the MacRobert centre in October. This week has basically been about research.

Youtube

Youtube is a video sharing website used by millions a
round the world. Videos can be linked to social websites like bebo, myspace and facebook. Membership is essential to upload and share videos but is free and easy to start.

Youtube hosts a review system in the form of st
ar ratings ( 1-5, 5 being the highest ).  Members can rate the videos and leave comments. Play lists can also be created. This is useful for music videos, saving the user constantly typing in their favourite songs.

Google video is another video sharing site and is easily accessible through the normal google web page. It has basically the same setup as youtube and has a link directly with youtube (as it is owned by the same company) A feature I like is the fact that the most popular videos being watched just now come up on the home page.
